20 injured as two Rwanda Buses crash in Ntungamo

The territorial traffic police of Rwizi at Ntungamo Police station has registered a serious accident at  Katinda bridge along the Ntungamo – Kabale road that left at least 20 passengers from both buses injured.

The accident occurred early Wednesday, March 29th, 2023 at around 3 pm.

According to the Police Traffic and Road Safety Directorate spokesperson, ASP Faridah Nampiima, the accident involved motor vehicle registration number RAD 795B HYUNDAI BUS belonging to Volcano bus company and RAC 704L SCANIA BUS belonging to Trinity bus company.

She added that the accident resulted from one of these drivers keeping the right hand side hence the collision.

“It’s alleged that motor vehicle reg number RAD 795B Hyundai bus which was moving  from Ntungamo heading to Kabale kept right when he reached Katinda bridge & ended up colliding head – on with motor vehicle RAC 704L Scania bus which was from Kabale side to Ntungamo on his lane.” Nampiima said.

According to the locals in the area, at least four accidents have happened in the same spot this month alone. The Ntungamo Territorial Police blames the accidents on overspeeding and negligence.

Earlier this year in January, six people died following a collision of two Rwanda-bound buses at Rwahi in Ntungamo District.
