36 contestants unveiled for Miss Tourism Uganda

The Miss Tourism Uganda-MTU organizers have unveiled 36 girls from 12 regions in Uganda to compete for the MTU crown in the 2022 edition under the theme, ‘Rethinking Tourism’.

The launch took place yesterday 10th September at Garden premier hotel Victoria mall-Entebbe. The event featured many officials from Uganda Tourism Board.

The current Miss Tourism Suzan Kahunde was in attendance. Gates were also open for the general public.

While unveiling the event road map, Rona Kisakye the Communication officer at Miss Tourism Uganda revealed that as they celebrate 10 years of existence, MTU thought of using the theme ‘Rethinking Tourism’ to find ways on how they can further promote the industry in particular and Uganda at large.

She also said that so many industries were affected by the pandemic that’s why they thought of something to revive the Tourism industry both domestically and internationally through the event as a marketing tool.

“The Miss Tourism 2022/23 winner will become Uganda’s Tourism Ambassador and also represent Uganda in the different Tourism Pageants like Miss Tourism International, and Miss Tourism East Africa among others,” she added.

Rona also asserted that MTU will be placing more focus on the promotion Uganda’s physical sceneries.

Dr Reginald Lloyd Freeman the Director National Executive Advisory Board said that they have traveled to several regions of the country selecting potential girls and now they have come up with 36 contestants for the grand finale.

She also stated that they have moved with Miss Tourism Uganda for the past 10 years and every year they take a girl to US in partnership with the Uganda embassy in Washington DC in away of promoting the industry as they did in Russia and United States previously by showing the beauty of Uganda.

Challa Elma Kapel, Miss Tourism Uganda 2017 on behalf of the queens appealed to the public for more sponsorships.

The grand finale will be held on 23rd September 2022 at Serena Hotel and the winner will be crowned Miss Tourism Uganda taking over from Susan Kahunde as her tenure comes to an end. She was crowned Miss Tourism Uganda in October last year.
