Nine people have been confirmed dead in a motor accident along Mbarara Masaka highway.
The accident happened today April 7th in Kyoja Trading Centre, Kinoni, Lwengo District at around 4pm when two vehicles had a head on collision.
According to police’s report, a driver of Alphard vehicle registration number UBL 314Cwas traveling from Kampala heading to Mbarara keeping the right hand side and crashed head on with a fuel tanker registration number SSD 327S/SSD 137Q that was moving from Mbarara.
The deceased include, seven adults and two juveniles.
Fire fighters and rescue services including Red Cross rushed to the blood soaked scene and extracted the bodies of the accident victims fighting for their lives.
The driver of the fuel truck and his turn man sustained injuries and have rushed for treatment at Masaka referral hospital.
The Traffic and Road Safety Spokesperson ASP Faridah Nampiima confirmed the news noting that more inquiries are ongoing and more details shall be availed.
“We want to take this opportunity to warn all motorists traveling upcountry for Easter celebrations to drive carefully, avoid speeding, phone driving, drink driving and all other road indiscipline that results into accidents. Our thoughts and prayers to the family of the deceased victims.”
This is a second accident resulting from driving on the wrong side in a space of less than two weeks.
