Nkumba VC tasks new student leadership with Vaccination mobilisation

The Vice Chancellor of Nkumba University, Prof. Jude Lubega has tasked the new students Guild government with the role to mobilise students for Covid-19 vaccination.

This was during the swearing in ceremony of the new Guild President, Lawrence Mushabe who emerged victorious in last week’s poll.

Lubega indicated that it was the role of the new leadership to rally students to show up for vaccination or else the students risk missing exams if they are not fully vaccinated.

The VC, however, revealed that the University is implementing anti-covid19 directives set by the Ministry of Health to ensure the safety of students.

“We are working closely with our Institute of Nursing and Kajjansi Health Center IV to set up vaccination centres within the campus and in a week’s time we shall be ready to execute this. The goal is to see all our students safe before the end of this year per the government’s directives.” Lubega indicated

Mushabe said having vaccines readily available at the campus will motivate students to take the Jab, but urged the university to avail psychosocial support to the students owing to the long stints they have been away from school.

“I am confident, and with my team, we shall be able to deliver, but many of our students are nonetheless still nursing adverse effects of the lockdown and we need to support them back on their feet.” Mushabe said

At the end of October, the government permitted tertiary institutions to resume physical learning but amid strict measures to curb the spread of the novel Corona virus.
