Onduparaka FC held Express FC in 1-1 stalemate on match-day seven of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at the Ababet Greenlight Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Muhammad Shaban’s early strike was cancelled by Geoffrey Lwesibawa as both goals came before the game came to the break.
The game started away with the required tempo as the home side looked looked for an early goal but Express looked calm and composed building from the back.
In the ninth minute, Onduparaka took the lead after Express’s custodian Denis Otim gifted Shaban Muhammad off Emmanuel Oketch’s powerful rebound.
Minutes later, Onduparaka preferred to defend as Express built momentum to find an equaliser having taken mantle of the game in Arua.
In the 18th minute, Wasswa Bbosa made an early change introducing Enoch Ssebaggala to replace John Byamukama.
Nine minutes later, Geoffrey Lwesibawa sent the ball in the right bottom corner with a powerful volley on the rebound off Ahmed Amayo’s clearance.
On the return of the second stanza, Express started on the fore fruit and it looked like they would take an early lead but Express stood tall and firm at the back.
In the 58th minute, Express made the second change for Joseph Akandwanaho coming on for Raymond Walugumbe.
Ssebagala was sent off the field of play after the second yellow card of the game which left Express with a man less in the mouthwatering encounter.
Moments later, Shaban nearly gave the hosts a late win after tapping Mataata’s cross from close range but the talisman’s effort hit the cross bar.
The result kept Onduparaka in the 11th position with nine points while Express are sixth with 12 points garnered from seven games played sofar.
In the next fixture, Onduparaka will be hosting onform Wakiso Giants on Tuesday December 7, while Express will also see off Mbarara at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium.
