Zaake wins shs75 million in torture suit

Mityana Municipality Legislator Francis Zaake is set to earn shs 75,000,000= in damages after High Court judge, Justice Esta Nambayo found that he was indeed tortured. The High Court also found that Zaake was unlawfully and illegally detained for 10 days before arraignment in a competent court which is against the forty eight hour rule.
The legislator was last year bundled and arrested by Police for flouting anti-COVID-19 guidelines while he was distributing relief food to his constituents in Mityana. After his release from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) special investigations unit in Kireka, Zaake sued the Attorney General on behalf of the government and individual security operatives and bosses including CMI boss Abel Kandiiho, Elly Womanya among others.
The security operatives said Zaake had been cut by handcuffs, and state minister for Internal affairs Obiga Kania infamously made news headlines when he told the August House that Zaake had injured himself. “Zaake kept on knocking himself on the metal of the pick-up. It is probable that these injuries were sustained from the knocking,” Kania briefed parliament.
