Ugandans in Afghanistan, refuse to return home

A section of Ugandan nationals living in Afghanistan are not willing to return home despite efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to look for and bring them back.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Gen. Abubaker Jeje Odongo revealed to Members of Parliament that the evacuation is purely voluntary and can not force return of Ugandans, citing that several of them say they are comfortable staying in war-torn Afghanistan.

Gen. Odongo revealed that they have been able to evacuate 10 Ugandans to the United Kingdom, through the United Nations, with only 3 more willing to to be evacuated and plans are underway to see that they are flown back home.

Uganda is currently hosting a total of 51 Afghanistan evacuees on behalf of the United States of America, the group will stay in the country as further plans emerge.
