Mugwanya Preparatory School Kabojja merged first in the 2024 Banna-Kizito Tournament organized by the catholic church after a 2 – nill win over Uganda Martyrs Primary School Lubaga at St Savior Junior School playground in Entebbe.
Before qualifying for the finals, Mugwanya Preparatory won Archbishop Kiwanuka Primary School Nakirebe 3 – 2 in penalty shoots after a nill – nill draw in the first semi-final.
Uganda Martyrs Primary School Lubaga before qualifying for the finals, they won St Peters Primary School 4 – 3 in penalty shoots after a goalless match in normal play of the second semifinal.
After the matches, Rev. Fr. Joseph Mary Ssebunya the Kampala archdiocese’s director for children highlighted that the winners in different categories will be awarded gifts including certificates, trophies, and medals by His Grace Paul Ssemwogerere the Kampala Archbishop in an event that will be held on 7th July 2024 at Namugongo Shrine.
He therefore called upon all other schools to join them as they celebrate with the Archbishop as well as participating in the next year’s tournament.
As Mugwanya Preparatory School Kabojja merged first in both U12 and U14 boys football, Archbishop Kiwanuka Nakirebe also won the girls netball trophies for both U12 and U14.
Other winners included; St Peters Primary School Nsambya winning the girls football trophy, St Raphael Junior School taking the boys netball and rompe strangle trophies as well as St James Primary School Bbiina ending the day with the volleyball trophy.
Richard Kasibante the program’s director noted that such tournaments are very essential in the development of children’s talents as well as unity among learners from different schools.
“This tournament has been in place for over 10 years and we hope to continue with it as a result of unveiling and developing young talents from different aspects including football, netball, and volleyball among others,” he said.
