Entebbe Municipal Council has signed a contract with Armpass Technical Services Limited for the construction of the Kitooro – Kiwafu – Nakiwogo road stretching 4 kilometers within the municipality. The 18 months contract is valued at 22 billion and 698 million shillings inclusive of 18% VAT funded by the World Bank.
According to Emmanuel Mugisha Gacharo, the Entebbe Municipality’s town clerk, the road will be upgraded to tarmac and will install street lights, create parking spaces and a pedestrian lane.
“The contractor will undertake the tarmacking of the parking space, street lights, and greening of the area to make it more accessible, beautiful and attractive,” he said.
In addition, Gacharo revealed that the VAT percentage will be contributed by the government of the Republic of Uganda.
Fabrice Rulinda, the Municipal Mayor welcomed the construction of the road and beautifying the area noting that it was extremely overdue.
“I’m very sure that Armpass Technical Services Limited will do a great job, I have seen part of the work they have done for example the Jinja road among others and I also believe that they will as well utilize the labour force of our young people in the community to generate income to our fellow residents among other benefits,” the Entebbe Municipality Mayor noted.
Rulinda also revealed the construction of another road that connects Nakiwogo landing site to the Entebbe – Kampala high way through UVRI, NMS to UMEME, saying, “the contract has been already signed with the idea to link all busy roads. It was extremely overdue to fix these roads basing on their importance for the people of Entebbe and the country at large.”
He concluded by urging the community to embrace and support the project for the betterment of the area in terms of having standard roads as well as turning Entebbe as a model city in Uganda.
The contract signing ceremony took place at the Entebbe municipal council headquarters hosted by the Mayor in presence of representatives from both Armpass technical services limited and the Entebbe municipality including the town clerk, procurement officer, the Entebbe division A chairperson Scholastica Najjemba among others.
