The Katabi towncouncil chairperson Ronald Kalema, has launched a football and netball tournament aimed at short listing a strong team for the town council, keeping the youth healthy and fresh ahead of the 2025 Wakiso district competitions.
The “Katabi Miruka Football/Neball Tournament 2025” will be played by all the five parishes that make up Katabi town council; namely Kitala, Nalugala, Nkumba, Kisubi and Kabaale.
Nalugala will battle Kitala in the opening game at Kanwa playground on 9th February 2025.
Speaking during the launch on Monday, Ronald Kalema noted that sports especially football is one of the games that unite people in every community thats why they decided to organize this tournament on additional to the preparations of the Wakiso district competitions.
“It is also a chance for the youth to showcase their talents to the public as well as having good interactions to each other,” he added.
Daniel Kuteesa Waddimba, the minister of sports at the town council is hopeful that the tournament will lead to the establishment of new talents.
“We have decided to organize this tournament in order to help youth showcase their talents as well as the establishment of new talents and we shall continue to organize it annually as we aim to get new players,” Waddimba added.
The winning football team will be crowned on 2nd March 2025 at Nkumba – Kataka playground walking away with a trophy, gold medals, jersey set and a bull.
On the other hand, the winning netball team will also be awarded with the trophy, medals on additional to a goat.
Every team will also be awarded a certificate of participation on additional to others gifts and rewards.
