Former Vipers midfielder Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye is set to make a remarkable return to Vipers SC after roughly just a season away from the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
He had left Vipers for Police FC on a permanent basis last season, having also spent the 2019/20 season at Wankulukuku on loan with Express FC, but both moves never went according to plan by the talented lad.
With Police, everything seemed fine between the player and the club, until the Cops unveiled their 34 man squad to take part in the 2021/22 season and Zaga was off the list.
Just like that, it was confirmed that Zaga was no longer a Police FC player. Since the new season started, the technically gifted midfielder has not played any football for any club hence making him available for the Venoms.
East or West, home is always best, they say, and Zaga understandably took a move back to Kitende, where everything started – with the St. Mary’s SS and Vipers SC junior side.
When he was promoted to the Vipers Sports Club team, he rarely tasted the sweet and crucial playing time.
He got rusty as the confidence levels were really low. Consequently, Vipers loaned him to Express for the much-needed playing time.
At the start of the 2019-20 season, the Venoms re-called him but still had limited minutes under his belt as they championed the Uganda Premier League for the fourth time.
Zaga, as he is fondly known by the football family had a recognizable slip in form, no doubt.
His conduct off the field of play left a lot to be desired and besides, the group of people he socialized within Kampala and at his home area in the oil-rich Hoima Municipality, needed a second thought.
Zaga is yet to start training with the Kitende based side, but he is back to full football training after months of absentia.
He was most recently seen going through drills with a local club along Entebbe road, not so far away from Kitende.
‘Zaga‘ was also seen in the stands at Kitende on Monday December 27 while supporting the lads who thumped UPDF FC in a 7-2 emphatic win .
This website has also established that the player at the moment is going through the available squad numbers to see which one will suit him the best ahead of the remaining games in the second half of the campaign.
Vipers, a side that prides in squad depth with quality will be so keen on adding the exciting player to an already enviable midfield set up.
Zaga’s sleek touch would be of great supplement to the Vipers midfield blended with Bright Anukani’s creativity, Karim Watambala’s pace and Bobosi Byaruhanga’s efficiency.
Come January, Zaga will be Vipers’ latest addition, all the current signs indicate he is set for a return to Kitende, unless otherwise.
If this deal materialize, Zaga will have to work on his discipline and conduct off the pitch if he is to revive his career that promised a lot but so far gave little.
