SUPL: KCCA edge Mbarara City to regain log summit

Wednesday January 5 (Results)

• KCCA FC 1-0 Mbarara City FC
• Busoga United 2-0 Onduparaka FC

Resilient KCCA FC registered a 1-0 narrow win against Mbarara City FC in the Star Times Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Wednesday.

Herbert Achai gave the hosts the lead with a venomous shot that was too much for Mbarara City’s custodian Martin Elugant to deal with just after a minute played.

Four minutes later, Mbarara threaded quick passes in the middle park before Thomas Kakaire released Jude Semugabi but the forward’s effort was palmed away by Derrick Ochan.

With ten minutes to the end of the first stanza, Sadat Anaku rose high to control and aerial duel but his spectacular effort was punched out by Elugant for a corner kick.

After recess, Usama Arafat and Davis Kasirye came on the field for Samson Kigozi and Brian Aheebwa.

Midfielder Kakaire failed to place the ball in the back of the net after failing to tap home a cross that found him at the far post.

Mbarara City found their best chance of the game in the 67th minute as Semugabi set for Kakaire but pony tailed defender John Revita stood tall to block the effort.

The result takes KCCA at the top of the log with 31 points while Mbarara suffered a third consecutive loss that kept them in the 12th position with 14 points from 14 games.

In the next fixtures, KCCA will make a journey to Arena of Visions, Ndejje against URA on Saturday January 8 while Mbarara will host Busoga at Kakyeka Stadium on Sunday.
