Soltilo Bright Stars faced quite a steep hurdle from Free Stars after playing to a 1-1 draw in normal time of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at Mukono Bishops SS grounds on Monday evening.
After the one-all stalemate, both sides were called for a penalty shootout which was won 7-6 by Bright Stars to end Free Stars’ journey in the prestigious tournament.
Bright Stars’ first chance of the game came as early as the third minute but his effort was punched away by Free Stars’ custodian.
Both sides grew as the game unrolled and it was evident that one of the sides was yet to concede a goal due to a high pace of the encounter.
After half an hour mark, the Free Stars front line gave Bright Stars goalkeeper Hassan Matovu made double saves to keep the matters at per.
In the 27th minute, Alex Kitosa placed the ball in the back of the net past to place Free Stars in the lead.
Moments later, Nelson Senkatuka nearly levelled the matters but his effort missed the target by just a whisker.
After the recess, Bright Stars introduced Methodius Junju for Derrick Kigundu as they searched for an equaliser.
With ten minutes to end the game, forward Janjali headed home off Issa Bugembe’s long throw-in from the left wing.
After ninety minutes, both sides were tied in a draw and they had to be separated by spot-kicks which were won by the visitors.
