Paul Ssekulima was the hero of the day as Busoga United edged Express FC in 1-0 narrow victory in the Star Times Uganda Premier League at Kakindu Stadium on Friday.
Red Eagles’ misery was compounded with a loss on the road to Jinja after parting ways with their former gaffer Wasswa Bbosa only to be replaced by his vice James Odoch.
In the 22nd minute, midfielder Paul Sekulima scored a stunner from outside the box to give Busoga United a lead in the tight encounter.
Eight minutes later, Sekulima released pacy Laban Tibiita but his cross to meet skipper Anthony Martial was cleared away by Isa Lumu for a corner kick.
With two minutes to end the first half, Deus Bukenya nearly restored parity for Express through a header off Martin Kizza’s freekick but his effort went wide.
At the start of the other half, Charles Musiige and Martin Kizza we’re replaced by Godfrey Lwesibawa and Joseph Akadwanaho to add more pace in the attacking zone.
Minutes later Shaka Ssozi crossed a well weighed effort to meet Peter Onzima whose powerful header was punched parried away from close range.
The results keep Express in fifth with 29 points while Busoga United jump out of the relegation zone into the 13th position at 17 points after 18 games played.
In there next game, Express will host KCCA at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Friday March 4 while Busoga will visit SC Villa at Njeru on the same day.
