Stanbic Uganda Cup: Sentamu’s Late Strike Enough As Vipers Eject Kigezi Homeboyz

Yunus Sentamu scored the only goal of the game as Vipers SC fought hard to register a 1-0 win against Kigezi Homeboyz in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 64 game played at Kabale Municipal Stadium on Monday.

Sentamu guided a shot from outside the box through a crowd of players into the back of the net in the 83rd minute as the hosts were eager to settle for a draw.

Vipers had tried to look for an opener since the beginning of the game but Kigezi Homeboyz were defending well.

In the 15th minute, Cesar Manzoki picked up the ball in the Kigezi half, dribbled and tried to shoot with the outside of his boot, but his attempt was blocked.

Manzoki then missed a header in the 65th minute following a brilliant delivery from Paul Willa.

The result means that Vipers have progressed to the Round of 32 of the Stanbic Bank Uganda Cup as they bid to defend it.

Elsewhere, UPDF FC became the first side to progress to the Round of 16 of the tournament after Sabir Yassin scored in extra time to ensure the army side beat Impala Hill FC 1-0.

Round of 32 action continues Tuesday with Mbale Heroes FC host NEC FC at San Siro Grounds in Mbale while Tepa FC will host Iganga Young at Ngora High Ground.

Elsewhere, Luwero United will take on Ndejje University at Kosovo Ground as Wakiso Giants welcomes Kyetume at Kabaka Kyabagu Stadium.
