Residents of Nkumba Bukolwa in Katabi town council woke up to a shocking scene after finding one of their own, murdered and body dumped in a banana plantation on Thursday morning.
Frank Muwonge 30years, was found dead and body bruised with bloodstains. He was reported to have to have engaged in a bitter fight, a day before which landed him into comma, but later resuscitated. “I escorted him to his place last night and he looked all well and fine,” narrated one resident.
To the shock of many, Muwonge was found dead the following day. Residents hence suspected that a fight which had ensured over shs1,000 the previous night, could have caused Muwonge’s demise. It’s alleged that Muwonge picked a fight with a one Abdul nicknamed Chicharito a day before, as the duo were fighting for shs1,000.
“Hes was beaten to pulp but later regained consciousness,” added Hussein Kyeyune. However, this remains susceptible to further inquiries as the deceased was last seen at his house on Wednesday night, only to find his lifeless body in a banana plantation, the following morning.
Residents block the road
Whereas Muwonge’s body was found very early on Thursday morning, it took police a couple of more hours to retrieve it from the scene which compelled residents to block the road leading to Kasenyi landing site.
Minutes later, the police arrived, examined the body before it was taken to Mulago hospital for postmortem. Abdul ‘Chicharito’ who had reportedly fought with Muwonge a day before, was arrested by the residents and dragged to Police as a prime suspect in the death of the carpenter.
Suleiman Jingo, the Vice chairman of Nkumba Bukolwa, blamed the incident on drug abuse saying, if true that Muwonge died of wounds sustained from the previous day’s fight, youths ought to avoid misusing drugs and alcohol as the two were reported to have been drunk preceding their fight.
