Museveni promises crackdown on cattle rustlers in Karamoja

AGAGO

President Yoweri Museveni has warned cattle rustlers to desist from the ill practice . “Tell those rustlers that they will very soon lose appetite for holding or even seeing a gun; whoever sees the cattle rustlers tell them to stop disturbing our people,” he said

This was during a pass out ceremony of 2,610 Local Defence Personnel (LDP) from Labwordwong Training School in Agago District on Wednesday. The 2,610 LDPs will join 6,237 others recently passed from the Oliver Tambo Military Training School in Nakaseke district.

Museveni also commended the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) leadership for turning the place into a training school and as well providing continuous support to new recruits.

According to the UPDF, the newly passed LDPs were admitted from parts of western and south-western Uganda and plans are underway to have them deployed in the Karamoja region to ensure pacification.

Over 600 deaths from cattle raids were recorded in Karamoja between 2019 and July 2021 per the Karamoja Development Forum.
