Hundreds of runners took off Sunday at the Mayor’s Garden in Entebbe Municipality for the annual Aviation Run. The race returned after a two year forced break owing to COVID-19 restrictions.
This year’s edition was part of events to commemorate 30 years of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) under the theme ‘Running for Inclusive Education for the Blind’.
Runners had the option of running either a 5-kilometer route or a 10-kilometer route. Both routes were divided into the men’s and women’s categories.
The participants were flagged off by the State minister for transport Fred Byamukama who underscored the importance of exercising and leading healthy lifestyles.
“It shows that UCAA is committed to empowering communities through giving back, taking part in physical exercise helps people eliminate sicknesses that result from excess body fat and laxity.” he said
UCAA Director-General, Fred Bamwesigye thanked all partners that contributed to the success of the run and as well donated towards this year’s cause.
Entebbe Municipality legislator Micheal Kamembo pledged to advocate for all round and inclusive education for students with impairments.
All proceeds from kit sales and donations collected from the run will be used to support visually impaired children at Sure Prospects School, Kitala.
The funds will be used to procure equipment, tools and technology to help enhance school success for visually impaired students at the school.
