Crested Cranes cruise past Djibouti to qualify for the next round

The Crested Cranes have qualified to the next round of the 2022 CECAFA senior women’s championship after thrashing Djibouti five goals to nil.

The two teams faced off in the second encounter of the tournament where Djibouti needed a win to keep their qualification hopes alive, while the hosts needed a win to qualify after defeating neighbors Rwanda in their first game.

Right from kickoff, the hosts displayed the unwillingness to show respect to their newly welcomed visitors and in just fifteen minutes Asia Nakibuuka headed home to give Uganda the lead.

Towards the end of the first half it seemed to be a defenders affair as another defender Margaret Namirimu netted in Uganda’s second.

Just at the start of the second half,Sandra Nabweteme made it three converting a quality pass from Fazila Ikwaput .

Just seven minutes onto the pitch, Phionah Nabumba added her name on the score sheet making it four for Uganda in the 52nd minute.

In the 69th minute , goal poacher Fazila Ikwaput added her name on the score sheet making it five for a comfortable win for Uganda in Njeru.

This means the crested cranes are clear to the next round after getting two wins in two games while Djibouti paved their way back to the horn of Africa after being defeated for the second consecutive time.
