3600 candles will be lit in memory of all COVID-19 victims

At sunset on Saturday 18th June 2022, 3600 candles will be lit and 3600 roses will be laid outside Victorian High School Entebbe in memory of all Ugandans that have succumbed to the novel corona virus disease.

Survivors and locals will join in a somber ceremony to pay tribute and lay wreaths in memory of their loved ones.

The memorial ceremony is part of a buffet of events set to mark the Covid-19 Memorial Week Entebbe organized by the COVID-19 Victims and Survivors’ Association (CVSA). The memorial week is set to begin on 13th June 2022 and climax on 19th June 2022.

The memorial week will kick-off with a corona virus vaccination and blood donation drive at Victorian High School grounds on Monday morning. Several survivors of the disease are expected to open up about their experience with the disease.

A similar lineup of events will go on for the whole week with a cocktail of sports events, aerobics, interactions, and prayers. On Saturday evening masses will gather to light candles, lay wreaths, and pray for the departed souls.

The week will be crowned by a mega service at Works Playground Namate in Entebbe Municipality on Sunday. The service will be attended by the Germany Ambassador, His Excellence Matthias Schauer among other dignitaries.

“To heal, we must remember, and it’s hard sometimes to remember, but that’s how we heal. It’s important to do this as a country. Many people have failed to find solace and closure after losing their beloved ones,” CVSA founder, Robert Ngudo intimated.

“We need to be really careful, the country is receiving new cases and other variants continue to set in, we need to adhere to the standard operating procedures to avoid setbacks.” Ngudo stated

According to the World Health Organization, Uganda’s cumulative Covid-19 cases stand at 164,330 and 3602 deaths, a total 21,044,430 vaccine doses have been administered.
