Life Saver Missionaries (LSM) organised Saturday a free medical camp in Gayaza-Buwaya, Kasanje Town Council in Wakiso District.
The 11-year-old faith-based nonprofit was joined by physicians, pediatricians, gynecologists, and orthopedic doctors from Kisubi Hospital, Emergency Children’s Hospital, CoRSU Hospital, Hope for Restoration Initiative and Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital at the health camp pitched at Johnpaul Senior Secondary School.
Over 500 locals attended the camp and lauded the move by LSM. The attendees received free consultation, medicine, and treatment.
“The LSM camp is a wonderful gesture, children and adults both needed such an intervention,” said the area councilor, Fausta Nakimuli
“It is an opportunity for us to access excellent medical care in an area with limited access to health facilities. The closest Health Centre is about 10 miles from here and the nearest referral is in Entebbe, and you need to travel by boat to get there.” she added.
Emergency Country Director, Giacomo Menaldo said they were able to refer a number of children for free surgical procedures to their Hospital.
According to a survey carried out by LSM last year, Buwaya is mostly affected by dental problems, malaria, and typhoid. It is upon this background that they decided to embark on a community outreach program cum medical camp this year.
LSM’s camp coordinator, Harriet Ssemakula said there is so much more that needs to be done to help turn health fortunes of the hard to reach area. “Our target this year is to at least reach out to at least 5000 people through provision of health services, we are grateful to our partners for the unwavering support and commitment,
“We hope more people and organisations can come on board to join the wellness and health advocacy. We intend to come back in the near future at least twice a week to avail more services.” she said.
The LSM medical camp is a continuation of the organisation’s outreach programs intended to empower communities across the country.
