Rosella Annie Ayane, Elchad Nesryne and Ghizlane Chebbak were on target for Morocco who beat the Crested Cranes 3-1 in the matchday two of Group A 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations.
On the other hand, Sumaya Komuntale scored Uganda’s only goal before she received matching orders.
Uganda faced a rough evening with tough calls from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), in the first incident Ayane was insufficiently contacted according to video reviews but the referee decided to point at the spot.
The worst decision in the game came late in the game, Komuntale was sent off proposing she had swung her hand onto Ayane’s face yet the left-back was in full control of the possession. This followed a penalty for the hosts.
It meant that Uganda has so far suffered five goals in the campaign but three of these are penalties.
A tough 90-minute for the ladies
In the 13th minute, Margaret Namirimu fouled Rosella Annie Ayane in the dangerous area resulting to a penalty.
The forward who plays for Tottenham calmly converted from 12 yards to place Morocco ahead.
Shortly after half an hour mark, Shamirah Nalugya was fouled at the edge of the box and Crested Cranes we’re awarded a freekick.
Sumaya Komuntale stepped up and beautifully curled the ball home to level matters hence restore Uganda’s hope.
As the first stanza was looming, the ladies ignited up through Ritah Kivumbi and Fauzia Najjemba though they failed to convert the half chances.
After recess, Morocco engineered a dangerous attack through Fatma Tagnaout who laid a low cross in the area but Nabbumba blocked it from reaching Rosella.
Cranes came close once again as Kivumbi laid a glorious cross in the area but Nabweteme was seconds late from tapping home into an empty net.
In the 68th minute, Elchad Nesryne rose highest to node home Ghizlane Chebbak’s well taken freekick.
The moment of confusion came in the 80th minute after Komutale was given a second booking and a send off for swinging her hand against Rosella’s face in the box.
Chebbak calmly converted the controversial penalty to extend Morocco’s lead to three.
The result leaves Uganda at the bottom of the long with two losses in two games.
