Crested Cranes forwards Fazila Ikwaput and Fauzia Najjemba have been recognised on the inaugural sheets of nominees for the continent’s biggest awards.
Ikwaput is among the 30 players that will be vying for the most prestigious award, Player of Year for the 2021/22 season.
While Najjemba is among the 10 players up for the Young Player of the Year for the 2021/22 campaign.
The Awards are set to be held on July 21 in Rabat, Morocco. However, they return after two years of absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fazila Ikwaput managed to score eight goals in 2021 guiding his side Lady Doves into the Cecafa Zonal Champions League qualifiers where she also bagged five goals.
In the just-concluded season, Lady Doves struggled after losing key players but the forward was the top scorer of the season with 15 goals.
While at the CECAFA Women’s Championship held at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, Fazila scored six goals in five games ensuring Uganda win their maiden regional trophy.
On the other, Najjemba also had a spectacular 2021/22 season that saw her fly out of the country for a professional stint with Kazakhstan side, BIIK Kazygurt.
The 19-year-old forward was so instrumental as on the journey helping Crested Cranes earn a spot in the ongoing Women’s African Cup of Nations.
Najjemba scored the second goal in the game when Uganda beat Ethiopia at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in the first leg of the first round of the WAFCON qualifiers.
She also managed to be the 2022 CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship top scorer with 12 goals in six games played.
In her maiden season in Kazakhstan, she has already scored nine goals and registered six assists.
