Morocco 1-2 South Africa
Banyana Banyana registered a 2-1 hard-fought victory against the hosts, Morocco to clinch their maiden Women African Cup Of Nations (WAFCON) title.
Hildah Magaia’s double was enough to put South Africa Ahead in the final game of the tournament before Rosella Annie Ayane pulled back one at the cauldron of Rabat’s Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex.
South Africa were playing their fifth final but were seeking to get their hands on the gong for the first time while Morocco were at this stage for the first time.
The game started on a very high speed as both side could not hide their hunger and ambitiousness for the big prize.
Hilda Magaia made a great run on the left wing into Morocco’s box but defender Elchad Nesryne made a perfect clearance to keep the storm calm.
South Africa nearly took the lead through Magaia who was released by Jermaine Seoposenwe but the last effort was blocked by Morocco’s custodian Khadija Er-rmchi.
Three minutes past half an hour mark, Magaia tapped home Seoposenwe’s well laid cross to break the padlock.
Eight minutes later, Magaia doubled the lead after the hosts fumbling in defence, the forward made no mistake but only to punish them.
With ten minutes to play, Morrocco pulled back one from experienced forward Rosella Annie Ayane which brought back life to the stadium.
The last minutes of the game where breathtaking as South Africa was on it’s back feet.
The three goals scored in the final meant that the tournament had witnessed 63 goals as the fans kept enjoying the entertainment from the ladies.
