City Lord Mayor seeks shs500m from Govt Spokesperson

Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has dragged his nemesis, Ofwono Opondo to high court civil division seeking justice for the torture he inflicted on him during a live talk-show at NBS TV on July 28, 2022.

According to Lukwago, Opondo pounced on his neck and attempted to strangle him. “I did not fight back but instead struggled to wriggle out of his grip. He then punched me in the chest and grabbed both collars of my jacket while huffing and puffing like a cobra,” Lukwago narrated his Ordeal.

“Being civilized and mindful of the law of unintended consequences, which could turn out to be catastrophic, I chose not to engage in a fist fight. I instead concentrated on shielding my face with both palms,” He added.

Lukwago has sought the indulgence of court claiming that the respondent’s actions contravenes Article BA, 20 (1)and (2),23,24,44,45 and 50 of the constitution of the Republic of Uganda and 1,2,3 and 9 of the Human Rights enforcement Act of 2019.

In an affidavit filed by Lukwago, he states that “The actions and conduct of the respondent were egregious, cruel, barbaric and high handed in nature for which I pray for the award of compensation and /or general exemplary and punitive damages totaling to UGx 500,000,000/= (Five hundred million Shillings) against the respondent.”

On Friday, July 29, Lukwago opened up a Criminal Case against government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo at Kira Road Police Station following the same altercation during NBS TV’s live talk-show, ‘The Frontline.’
