Kakumiro locals receive pigs, heifers from NAADS

The government of Uganda through NAADS and Operation Wealth Creation program last week handed over 500 improved pigs and 50 in-calf dairy heifers to the people of Kakumiro district.

These are to be used for onward distribution to 550 vulnerable women and youth groups of Kakumiro.

The livestock items were received by the Rt.Hon. Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja who also presided over their distribution.

After receiving the healthy pigs and heifers, she went ahead and thanked the NAADS Secretariat for the great package of economic transformation and income generation it had provided or given to the people of Kakumiro.

In her remarks, she also urged the beneficiaries to manage the investment properly for food security and income generation.

Operation Wealth Creation was launched by H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda in July 2013 as an intervention to efficiently facilitate national socio-economic transformation, with a focus on raising household incomes and wealth creation by transforming subsistence farmers into commercial farmers.

It has created debate on service delivery approaches including use of the private sector in the agricultural sector development among others.

It has gone further by identifying the existing gaps for instance inadequate policy framework and regulation in the sector which will help to provide targeted interventions in agriculture.

The National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) program of Uganda is an innovative public-private extension service delivery approach, with the goal of increasing market oriented agricultural production by empowering farmers to demand and control agricultural advisory services.
