District prisons commander collapses dead

The District Prisons Commander -DPC, Nwoya and Amuru, Charles Ocakacon, collapsed and died instantly on Thursday 1st, September, 7pm at Continental Hotel, Nwoya district.

Frank Baine, the Prisons spokesperson confirmed the incidence saying that the Superintendent of Prisons indeed collapsed and died yesterday under unclear circumstances.


The commissioner general of the Uganda Prisons services announces the untimely death of Mr. Charles Ocakacon, Superintendent of Prisons(DPC-Nwoya/Amuru) which occurred on the 01/09/ 2022 at about 19:00 hrs,”the press statement reads in part, further stating that, “the cause of death has not yet been established because he suddenly collapsed and died instantly from Continental Hotel-Purongo in Nwoya district,”

According to David Ongom, the Aswa regional police Spokesperson, “Police has commenced investigations to ascertain circumstances under which the 54 year old commander died“.

Preliminary investigations indicate that around 8pm on Wednesday, the deceased booked a room for a two day stay at Continental Hotel where he spent a night with his girlfriend, Adong Flavia.

In the morning, the supposed girlfriend left him as she embarked on the journey to her work place, a near by restaurant.

The deceased later woke up in an attempt to follow his girlfriend for breakfast but instead bought local gin which he took, forgoing breakfast.

It is said that, at lunch time, Adong delivered food to the Commander at the hotel room and went back to her work place.

The deceased allegedly collapsed at around 6pm, while coming out of the room and was rushed to Jang Lachor clinic where he was pronounced dead.

Police has combed the scene for any possible evidence, recorded statements from relevant eye witnesses and apprehended the alleged girlfriend to help in the investigations, the body has been conveyed to Anaka hospital for a postmortem,” said David Ongom.

The deceased was SPF Officer incharge of Uganda Prison, Mutukula before replacing Superintendent of Prisons, Walter Ogaba as the District Prisons Commander, Nwoya in February this year.
