CAF CL: Vipers SC go past De Bangui to set TP Mazembe meeting

Vipers SC comfortably sealed a 1-0 victory against Olympic Real De Bangui in the second leg of the CAF Champions League Preliminary round at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Yunus Sentamu’s clinical finish was enough to see Central Africa Republic out fit out of the way, to reach the penultimate round.

The victory meant that the hosts had won the tie 4-0 on aggregate after marking 3-0 win in the first round.

On the next round, the Venoms will lock horns with DRC’s moneybags TP Mazembe.

OR De Bangui kicked off the game on the high tempo but were not clinical enough to get ahead of the hosts.

Yunus beat two of his markers before he dashed the ball on the far post. But the went wide by inches.

Ashraf Mandela sent Raphael Yapende to the the grass before he laid a sweet calm ball in the area but Yiga was blocked by a mix of De Bangui players.

In the 19th minute, Bright Anukani released on roving Yunus who calmly chipped the ball past custodian Paterene Gbawito into the back of the net.

At half an hour mark, Mandela laid a mid low cross into the dangerous vicinity but Yunus ballooned his effort way above the frame.

In the second stanza, Vipers nearly extend the lead. Sentamu past through a forest of legs before he heel-passed to Anukani whose effort went above the wood-work.

Vipers SC later introduced Ibrahim Orit for injured Najib Yiga while Karim Watambala replaced Anukani.

The hosts created several chances up front but failed to take home any to keep the result intact.

De Bangui nearly found a leveller through Flory Jean Micheal Yangao but his effort kissed the goal post and sailed out.

The first leg of Vipers against TP Mazembe will be played at Kitende between October 7th and 9th.
