Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo the State Minister for Education in Charge of Higher Education urged students to make good use of the skills attained to limit the challenges of land grabbing and double titling as faced by the ministry of lands in the country.
He said this on Friday while presiding over the 5th graduation ceremony at the Institute of Survey and Land Management in Entebbe municipality.
A total of 500 graduates were skilled in land surveying, cartography, land management evaluation, physical planning among others.
Dr. J.C Muyingo also extended the first lady’s appreciation message to the administration, parents and the students for the positive growth of the institute as well as raising the ministry’s flag through improving professionalism and excellence.
Benard Oguro the institution’s principal revealed that there has been a remarkable increase of the population of students from 500 to 700 making a 40% increase since last graduation of 2019.
“This is because of popularity the Institute is gaining by use of new measures like online application, Institute website, brochures, magazines among others,” he added.
Sam Mayanja, the State Minister for Lands, believes that with the renewed interest, the Institute will still move forward and gain the university status and also pursue leadership in vocational studies.
He also appreciated the staff for not being economic with their skills, having them passed over to the students in away of enhancing quality survey and land management activities.
To the graduands, minister Mayanja urged them to extend the skills attained with excellence and integrity as well as being good ambassadors of the institution.
Chris Tembo Omoding the Governing council chairperson of institution tasked the graduands to exercise the highest level of professionalism and ethical behaviour.
“You have just opened a door to limitless opportunities which you must never cease to explore and your services are needed much more uniquely than ever before,” he concluded.
Annet Masuubi a certificate graduate in land management and geometrics believes that the skills acquired will guide them in taking right steps as well as handling the challenges in the field such as fraud, unprofessional land brockers, land grabbers among others.
