Judiciary to appoint more 68 High Court Judges

Earlier this year in May, President Yoweri Museveni appointed 16 High Court Judges to improve capacity for fast-tracking justice administration countrywide, but the target number is yet to be achieved.

According to the Judiciary spokesperson, Jamson Karemani the Judiciary is shy of 68 High Court judges to be able to efficiently deal with the case backlog and as well deliver Justice.

He said this while speaking to Journalists at the opening ceremony of the induction training of 17 newly appointed judges of the High Court last week, Wednesday.

The two-week induction session was organised by International Development Law Organisation (IDLO) through the Judicial Training Institute.

The two-week training was officially opened by Chief Justice Alfobse Owiny-Dollo who noted that the recent appointments and deployment of judges across the country is already bearing fruit.

According to Owiny-Dollo, recent progress is synonymous with the budgetary increment of the Judiciary hence permitting appointment of more magistrates across the country.

The Chief Justice revealed that they intend to appoint a magistrate at every sub-county in order to deliver justice expeditiously. “And if we also attain a target of 150 judges of the High court, there shall be no reason as to why any case takes more than six monthsin court,” he said.
