Ntugamo Leadership on the spot over missing Healthcare equipment

Residents of Kitookye village, Nyanga Parish Nyakagongo Rushenyi county on Tuesday stormed the Ntugamo district headquarters demanding answers on healthcare supplies allocated to Nyanga Health Center III.

The residents allege that district administration received equipment meant for Nyanga Health Center but diverted it to other facilities in the area.

According to Rubaare sub-county councilor, John Kabeho the health centre has only one bed and they receive many patients from different areas in need of services.

Kabeho further said the locals demonstrated in order to get clear understanding of where the equipment went and to know when they will get it back.

Another councilor, Shallon Kyomukama revealed that they had over time engaged the district leadership to provide solutions to the poor state of Nyanga health Centre but nothing has been done.

Ntugamo deputy Chief Administrative officer, Fedelis Kiiza while responding to the demonstrators said that the government of Uganda is in the process of elevating all Health center IIs to health center III level and Nyanga Health Center III is still under construction. He said they have not lost any hospital equipment to private Hospitals as it is alleged by some leaders.

Kiiza also urged them to wait for the final report from Inspectorate of Government and the State House Health Monitoring Unit as they are investigating about the issue.

Ntungamo District Chairperson, Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba told the locals that they don’t know exactly who received the supplies, where the delivery went and that even the contractor who got the contract to bring the equipment was paid only 30%.

Mucunguzi told the demonstrators to calm down, wait for the final report from the IGG and Health monitoring unit of the state House and put away politics.
