The Anti-corruption court in Kampala convicted former State Minister for Labour Herbert Kabafunzaki on two counts of corruption contrary to section 2 (a) and 26 of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009 and one count of conspiracy contrary to section 390 of the penal code Act.
The former minister, who was arrested on April 8, 2017, is jointly charged with two others, who include Mr Brian Mugabo, his political assistant, and Mr Bruce Lubowa, an interior designer in Wakiso District.
In a sentence delivered by Justice Margaret Tibulya on Friday, Court ordered Kabafunzaki to pay UGX 10 million in fines, failure of which he will serve a 3 year prison sentence.
The former Rukiga County Legislator, Kabafunzaki has also been barred from holding any public office for the next 10 years.
Leading to his arrest, Kabafunzaki was accused of soliciting a bribe of UGX 15 million from AYA Group Chairman, Hamid Mohammad to make sexual harassment charges of the later go away between April 6th and 8th 2017.
Prosecution presented key evidence in the matter cementing that on April 8th, the ex-minister had received a bribe of UGX 5 million in Cash.
