The National Drug Authority (NDA) has closed 28 drug outlets and impounded 109 boxes of assorted drugs worth UGX 30 million during a 14-day compliance enforcement operation in the Central region.

The operation, according to the Authority targeted drug outlets that had no licenses nor qualified staff in the districts of Masaka City, Wakiso, Masaka, Lwengo, Mpigi and Ssembabule.

The operation is a continuation of the NDA’s crackdown on illegal drug outlets and also in line with their mandate to protect and promote public health through effective regulation of human and animal medicines, and healthcare products.

Abiaz Rwamwiri, the NDA spokesperson revealed that the impounded drugs will be returned to the owners if they comply with the requirements in place.

“We call upon drug outlet operators whose drugs have been to reach out to our central region offices, to comply and have their medicines returned,” Rwamwiri said.

Earlier this year in February, NDA shut down 70 drug outlets and impounded drugs worth UGX 40 million in the Rwenzori region.
