The Rukiga District Chairperson Robert Kakwerere has called upon the government through National Medical Stores (NMS) to promptly intervene in solving the drug shortage in Healthy facilities.
The district boss was speaking during the lay-down of the 2023/2024 financial year (FY) estimated budget, a function held Thursday 30th March 2023 at the District Rukiko hall.
An estimated budget of UGX 22,536,785,000 which has increased by 0.9% to the current 2022/2023 FY of UGX 22,330,698,000 will see the education and sports sector take the lion’s share of UGX 13,128,510,000 at 58.3% followed by the Health sector with UGX 4,580,876,000 at 20%.
Robert Kakwerere said that he has met and received many calls from people, complaining of how they have failed to find medicines in Health Centres and other government health facilities.
Robert Kakwerere said that every day I meet a lot of people on my way and others call me complaining of how they have failed to get medicines in Health Centres and other hospitals, that they are only told to go and get medicine from drug shops.
The Deputy Resident District commissioner (D/RDC) Rukiga district, Kamusiime Zadoch said that even health facilities with drugs, are mismanaged and stolen. Kamusiime also revealed that Rukiga has seen a major rise in murder and land grabbing cases.
The Rukiga Central police station OC, ASP Tusiime Franklin who represented the District Police Commander at the Function called up the District Councilors and other local leaders to join the security teams in forging ways of how they can minimize the growing murder cases in the district. Citing the recent murder case where two people from the same area in Mparo Town Council were killed on Wednesday.
