KANUNGU- Police in Kanungu District have arrested four suspects for lynching a 20-year-old man who was allegedly found with a stolen chicken in Kirima sub-county. Other suspects are still at large.
Derrick Orikiriza a mutwa by tribe a resident of Buhamba village Rutugunda parish met his death at the hands of an angry mob.
The Kigezi Region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate told journalists on Thursday 06/04/2023, that suspects particulars can’t be revealed not to jeopardize investigations.
Maate said that on Thursday at around 10:00am the deceased was found with a stolen chicken belonging to a woman only identified as Joy who was accompanied by other locals and ended up beating him to death.
Maate narrated that, the body of the deceased was found lying pronely to the ground covered with blanket brought by his parent along the road to Kitariro health centre III.
Meanwhile Police was alerted, scene visited by a team headed by SP Okello Charles the DPC and processed, body was taken to Kanungu Health centre IV for postmortem and handed over to the relatives for burial while Inquiries at hand.
The Police Spokesperson notes that Case of murder by mob justice was registered at Kanungu District police station under reference number CRB 261/2023.
