UNF boss Kityo released on Bail

Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) president, Sarah Babirye Kityo has been released on bail by Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha.

Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court granted Kityo and her co-accused Zainab Namutebi a cash bail of UGX1 million each when they appeared in court on Wednesday and each of their heir sureties was bonded at UGX4 million, non cash.

The former legislator and city businesswoman Namutebi are battling charges of defrauding two different people of UGX16 million promising to take them abroad. The pair was remanded to Luzira prison on the 15th day of May, 2023.

One of the victims Sarah Wamala alleges that Kityo and Namutebi obtained UGX8 million from her with the promise of taking her son to the United States of America which didn’t materialize. On the second count another victim identified as Gloria Kikomeko alleges that Kityo alongside other parties who are on the run took UGX8 million to fund her travel abroad.

Kityo and her co-accused both pleaded not guilty to all the counts in court. Court has designated June 6th for hearing of the matter.

The charges come only weeks after the Sports Minister, Janet Museveni asked Kityo to step aside from office to permit a thorough investigation into allegations of mismanagement of funds and abuse office at UNF.
