The Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi has been remanded to Luzira prison until 31st May over charges of forgery and falsification.
He was arrested and detained at the CPS Kampala on Tuesday afternoon. After being held for 48hours under police custody , he was bought to the Nakawa Grade 2 court on Thursday and his charges were read to him in a private meeting.
After the court hearing, Muhangi said “I have been presented to the judge and we have heard the charges , now the case has been pushed back to May 31. I request the Minister of Education and Sports Mama Janet Museveni to take interest into this issue because we are being trudged upon in the sports sector,”
“The only crime I have ever committed was to take care of the boxers ,help uplift their lives from the ghetto and try turn them into superstars,” he said .
“But I am not shaken with this . We need to cleanse out industry , and I hope our leases including the president take interest in what is happening in sport,” he continued.
He was bound to ask for bail but the Magistrate presiding over the case Ritah Kidasa Newumbe denied the bail request.
Moses Muhangi’s arrest was ordered by CID after his case was forwarded by the Parliamentaty Public Accounts Committee for further investigation.
