Uganda joined the world last week to commemorate the international museum day with that were held Gulu district in the North.
The Vice President Jessica Alupo delivered the President’s speech to the public. This year’s celebrations were organized under the theme ‘Museums our heritage.’
In his speech, Museveni tasked the private sector partners to invest in the development of untapped tourism resources in Northern Uganda including Fort Patika and other historical sites.
The president urged the private sector to set up educational recreation services in all museums located in the entire region saying that the move will make the country attractive not only to international tourists but also to domestic tourists.
President Museveni went on and said that the improvement of connectivity through the development of tourism revival of the Uganda Airlines, the conversation of our heritage as well as the promotion and showcasing of the potential of museums will diversify Uganda’s tourism which will increase the national socio-economic growth.
He went on to emphasize that the development of museums is a firm foundation for the dissemination of skills , knowledge and information inherited from our great grand parents in the advancement of civilization and technological innovation such as herbal medicine and creative performing arts which were used to solve societal problems to promote cultural tourism and empowerment of citizens to live in harmony.
President Museveni encouraged new cities like Gulu, Lira, Fort Portal among others to develop leisure and sports facilities that accommodate infrastructual development of museums to enable tourists to explore the country and equally helps in showcasing the cultures of this country.
