A policeman attached to the Counter Terrorism Police allegedly shot and injured a Uganda Christian University (UCU) student in Nabuti cell, Mukono Municipality in Mukono district.
Natasha Nagayi, 21 was shot by ASP Dismas Tebangole, 57 as she tried to open his house when she mistook it for her boyfriend’s in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to preliminary reports, Tebangole noticed that someone was trying to open his main door with a key when he peeped through the window glass at around 4am in the morning.
Kampala metropolitan spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire confirmed the incident and revealed that Tebangole is in custody of the Police whilst Nagati is fighting for her life in hospital.
“In a state of suspicion, the officer discharged three live bullets through the window glass, hitting Nagayi Natasha on the right chest, near the lower armpit. Upon being shot, the victim fell to the ground and cried out for help, asserting that she was not a thief. She specifically mentioned the name Bandishe Ashraf, one of the tenants residing in the suspect’s residence. The caretaker of the residence, Ssengendo Hanington, along with other neighbors, responded to the scene. Subsequently, the suspect emerged from his residence,” Owoyesigire said
He furthermore revealed that a Pistol with 12 rounds of live ammunition was recovered from Tebengole by the Police.
Meanwhile, as gun violence continues to rock the country, a police officer shot and killed a Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) soldier in Mbarara district on Friday.
In recent days, at least four private security guards have been shot and killed across the country.
