KABALE– To enhance the promotion of Uganda’s tourism capability, the Uganda Tourism Board(UTB) has commenced a training program for journalists on innovative tourism and conservation reporting.
The four-day engagement with tourism and travel reporters in Uganda was launched Monday at Cephas Inn Kabale. This refresher training, combined with visits to various tourism sites in the Kigezi Sub-Region, aims to empower journalists to better promote Uganda’s tourism potential.
UTB spokesperson, Simplicious Gessa underscored that the media training concentrates on equipping journalists with practical skills to effectively showcase the diverse tourist attractions in Uganda.
Gessa further highlighted that Kigezi Region, specifically Kabale District, was chosen as the host for the initial training due to its abundance of captivating tourist sites.
He also emphasized the goal of providing greater exposure to tourism features in different regions through the media.
African Centre for Media Excellence’s John Baptist Imokola expressed that such training programs should have commenced years ago, considering the continuous growth of Uganda’s tourism sector.
Imokola believes that such training sessions create an opportunity to share experiences and improve the sector’s performance.
Journalists working in tourism and travel reporting warmly welcomed the engagement with the Uganda Tourism Board, acknowledging its potential to assist them in crafting compelling stories aligned with the field of tourism.
Uganda has experienced a steady increase in tourist numbers, reaching an estimated 1.5 million visitors annually. This growth has contributed 7.7% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
