AFCON 2021: Egypt come from behind to edge Morocco to reach semifinals

Egypt came from a goal down to register a 2-1 victory against Morocco in the African Cup of Nations on Sunday evening.

Achraf Hakimi was brought down in the box and centre referee Maguette N’Diaye visited VAR to award Morocco a penalty.

Sofiane Boufal stepped up to take the challenge and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Munir El Hadadi latched on a free ball in the box resulting from a rebound but Amro Hegazi blocked the effort.

Second-half substitute Trezeguet created spAce in the dangerous area before he pulled off a shot but went wide by inches.

In the 53rd minute, Egypt’s skipper Mohamed Salah tapped home from close range to level matters.

Nayef Aguerd finds space in the box but he slightly mistimed the header hence sending the challenge above the crossbar.

The normal time ended with a goal apiece and they entered extra time to tell who goes to the last four.

In the 100th minute, Salah laid an inch perfect pass to meet Trezeguet who stered into the back of the net.

The result sends the Pharaohs in the semifinals of the ongoing tournament.

Egypt will face the tournament hosts in the last four of the tournament to decide who plays the finals.
