AFCON 21: NFF opens up on Osimhen’s delay to join the camp

The Nigeria Football Federation (NNF) has confirmed that Victor Osimhen is expected to join the Super Eagles camp in January as the side prepares for the upcoming African Cup of Nations.

The Napoli goalscoring machine is already in Nigeria coming from his club team in Italy where he has been recovering from facial surgery.

While talking to BBC Sports Africa, the federation’s spokesperson Ademola Olajire came out to confirm that they are in touch with Osimhen after rumours that the forward will not be available for AFCON.

“We expect Victor (Osimhen) to join up with the rest of the squad at least by January 3,” Olajire revealed.

“It is necessary to reach out to every report in the media about players’ availability or potential non-availability for the tournament.”

“But the NFF are confident that our players including Osimhen understand the country’s desire to clinch a fourth continental title.”

“It is important to have all our players show the same commitment and ambitious traits as displayed by Osimhen,” Olajire concluded.

NFF has recently named Portuguese gaffer, Jose Peseiro as the new head coach of the Nigeria national team who were pitted in Group D.
