AFCON Qualifiers: Uganda to host Algeria in Cameroon

Uganda Cranes are set to host Algeria in Cameroon for their last Africa Cup of Nation Qualifiers.

The development was confirmed by FUFA president Moses Magogo via the federation’s official website.

“Today is 25th April and it is the deadline for Nations to submit their host venues to CAF for the next AFCON Qualifier games,” Magogo was quoted.

“When the FUFA Executive looked at the FUFA Executive looked at the options available, Cameroon is what we decided to take,” he added.

“We have opted for Cameroon because of several reasons including ease of access in terms of travel (Visas), they recently hosted AFCON and therefore have good stadiums and they are willing to give us a friendly match because their three teams in their group and they won’t have a game in the next window.”

Magogo further complained that the works at Mandela National Stadium are sloppy and done in a shoddy manner.

“We had hope and assurance that the game against Algeria will be played at Namboole but the progress has been slow and even the basic facilities needed have not been put in place.”

“We had requested CAF to play behind closed doors considering that the pitch and dressing room would be ready but even that has failed.”

The news leaves Uganda’s chances to qualify for the upcoming AFCON in a ditch since the game against Algeria is so crucial in the campaign.

This will be the second home game Uganda Cranes will be playing away from home after hosting Tanzania at Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Egypt.
