Abdul Fatawa Issahaku who scooped the Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolade at the 2021 Under-20 African Cup of Nations in Mauritania has landed a mega-deal that will see him join Sporting Lisbon.
The Portuguese giants secured the youngster’s signature by beating tight competition from German side Bayern Leverkusen and English outfit Liverpool FC.
The Ghanaian hot prospect put ink on a five-year employment contract that dictates that his release fee is 60 million Euros.
The existing attacking midfielder has been on a gradual rise since showcasing in the youth tournament eventually emerging champions which was the fourth for Ghana.
Even though the team missed the chance to represent in the global tourney that was cancelled due to the pandemic it was evident that Fatawa was destined for greatness.
The 18-year-old has trekked faster commanding a starting slot to the team that took Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup that will be hosted in Qatar in November
After completing the deal, the youngster would not hide his excitement and noted that he is going to do all it takes to achieve his goals as well as be part of the team’s growth.
“I will work hard to achieve my goals as well as those for the club,” Fatawu opened up to the press.
I am very happy to be here because it’s a dream come true. It’s fantastic and I am honoured. They have welcomed me very well and in a little while this will fully be home.”
“Back in Ghana, they know I had a number of opportunities but I preferred one that will spur my growth as an individual as well as my career. I believe I found it and am ready for work,” He concluded.
Before completing the deal to Portugal he earlier played for Steadfast FC and Dreams FC which are all teams in Ghana.
It only remains a point of time to see when the shirt ten can break into Ruben Amorim’s starting eleven.
Sporting Lisbon are second on the log with 70 points, six shy of the summit which is fully taken by FC Porto after 28 games of the on going campaign.
