Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo has bagged another Gold in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after a stellar men’s 5000m win. The Golden boy put up a formidable performance to out match his Kenyan counterparts Kimeli and Krop who settled for Silver And Bronze respectively as Kiplimo triumphed for gold.
With a meager four laps to go, three Kenyans, Kimeli, Krop and Kemboi earned dominance and they were set to garner more strength for a finish, Kimeli moved to the outside lane and signalled Krop to follow suit with Kemboi strangling to catch up and later lagged behind inviting a seemingly unwavering Kiplimo to gain momentum.
The Kenyan duo, Nicholas Kimeli and krop put up stiff team synergy to strain Kiplimo but the 2022 Commonwealth Men’s 10,000m’s Champion injected in more energetic pace leaving the duo gasping for air as he dashed with a sprint finish.
He strolled them out within a 10 metre distance to the finish line securing his second gold in his record second best (SB) 13:08.08 in the men’s 5,000m race. Kimeli was second with 13:08.19 while Krop finished 3rd with a 13:08.48 timing.
“My plan was to remain in the middle because I was feeling some fatigue, in the last 80m I knew I was going to win the race because my Kenyan friends were struggling to keep up the pace,” said Kiplimo shortly after his win.
Three days ago Kiplimo beat another Kenyan opposition to clinch the 10,000m title. Kiplimo’s double makes it three Gold so far for Uganda in the 2022 Commonwealth Games after Victor Kiplagati scooping gold in the men’s marathon last week.
