Bwindi Impenetrable National Park; Home of Gorillas

Located in South Western Uganda on the edge of the Rift valley, Bwindi is home to 51% of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas who feed on roots, fruits, and leaves from the park’s many trees and fern species. Bwindi is a swath of steep mountains covered by steamy and thicky jungles just as magnificent as it looks. With 120 mammal species, 350 bird species, and approximately 400 mountain gorillas call Bwindi Home. This is one of the best places in the world to see Mountain Gorillas up close with several other activities.

Gorilla Tracking is a genuine once-in-a-lifetime experience worth your time. Bwindi is a prime place to hang out; not just Gorillas but Mountain Gorillas- which are the most thrilling wild encounters in the world. Theoretically, there are 96 daily permits available to track gorillas in Bwindi. As of 1st July 2021, each gorilla permit in Uganda is sold at $700 for either Bwindi or Mgahinga national park all year round without low season discounts.

Forest walks you can’t afford gorilla tracking, Bwindi is a rewarding park to visit for a chance to explore a lush virgin rainforest. There are several forest walks run by the Uganda Wildlife Authority penetrating the National park.

Bird Watching: Bwindi is the Bird watcher’s haven! It holds 348 species of birds and contains 90% of all Albertine rift Endemics such as; the Short-tailed Warbler, Rusty-faced woodland Warbler, Bar-tailed Trogon, Gruer’s Rush Warbler, Wilcock’s Honey-guide, Yellow-eyed black Fly-catcher, Kivu Ground Thrush, Dusky Crimson Wing, White-tailed Blue Monarch among others, difficult or impossible to see in any other part of East Africa.
 An experienced bird watcher can identify up to 100 species in a day!

Water Fall TrailDuring a Safari, one can be able to follow the waterfall trail that leads to a magnificent 33m waterfall on Munyaga River just as impressive as the rich forest ecosystem which passes through. The Waterfall trail is an ideal short walk for visitors with little time to spare. Here you can see birds and primates of the forest edge. The popular waterfall trail provides an attractive feature of the forest with a profusion of tree ferns, epithetic ferns, orchids, and Bwindi’s colorful array of butterflies. This trail which leads to 3 delightful crystal clear waterfalls typifies your impression of a tropical rain forest. Cultural performances in the evenings, participate in captivating traditional performances presented by Women’s groups among other performances by the minority Batwa ethnic group who are loosely referred to, as the pygmies. Proceeds from such performances, go directly to improve the welfare of families around the park.
