CHAN 2022: Uganda held to a draw by Sudan in practice game

Uganda Cranes registered a 2-2 stalemate with neighbors Sudan in a practice game at Jamel Stadium, Tunisia on Tuesday.

Karim Watambala and Ibrahim Orit scored for Uganda while Sudan replied through Abdulrahman Muhammad and Kuwa Siddig.

Two minutes into the game, youngster Watambala placed Micho’s charges in the driving seat.

Four minutes later, Sudan leveled matters through Abdulrahman who calmly converted from the spot to give the game a perfect start.

In the 13th minute, Ibrahim Orit regained Uganda’s lead hence taking control of the game once again.

From that moment till the first half break, Uganda was in steady control but failed to extend their lead after wasting numerous chances in front of the goal.

After recess, Uganda made two changes introducing Youngman Marvin and Moses Aliro to replace Siraje Sentamu and Orit.

With four minutes to hit the hour mark, Sudan once again came from behind to level matters through Kuwa.

Moments later, Frank Ssebufu and Moses Waiswa paved way for Nelson Senkatuka and Bright Anukani.

In the 74th minute, Ashraf Mandela, Derrick Ndahiro, Milton Karisa and Watambala were called off the field of play.

Isa Mubiru, James Begisa, Travis Mutyaba and Najib Yiga came on to such for an edge in the closely contested game.

Uganda will continue with CHAN preparation. The tournament kicks off on January 13 and Uganda is in Group B with DRC, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

This will be the sixth time, Uganda take part in CHAN after playing 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020 editions.
