Construction of Science Industrial Park in Gunda Forest Reserve to commence

The construction of a science industrial park at Gunda Forest Reserve is expected to commence anytime from now. This was reached earlier this week after the Lands state minister, Sam Mayanja, granted authority to the science experts from the State House to set up a science industrial park at this Forest Reserve land located in Katabi Town Council.

This has humanized the situation since over the years, youth leaders have been accusing State House officials of excluding them on the projects on land which was given to them by the President in 2023.

While handing over the forest reserve to the science experts from the State House on Monday, Minister Mayanja confirmed the availability of all necessary funds for the construction process, saying that the government has already allocated resources for the whole project.

“I proudly announce that the government is ready to construct many other facilities of this kind to provide the youth with employment opportunities and revenue to the country as well,” he added.

After touring around the boundaries of the forest reserve, Mayanja lauded the president, the youth, and area leaders who had done a great job in protecting the land from land grabbers who wanted to take off this forest reserve.

Wakiso District youth councillor Ibrahim Kazibwe said, “Before we had a challenge in communication from the relevant stakeholders claiming to be in plans to develop the land, but now we are confident enough that it is in proper channels and we can’t wait for such a development in our area that will gain the youth and the entire community.”

On behalf of the science experts from the State House, Phiona Barungi confirmed that the science industrial park is to benefit all Ugandans irrespective of their political affairs.

Dr. Hillary Emma Musoke the Private Secretary to the president of Uganda in charge of youth, revealed that the construction process will commence as soon as they receive the land title.

“We are grateful to the president through the minister for this achievement, and we hope this will stand as a great opportunity, especially to the youth in terms of employment opportunities, hence improving their standards of living,” he said.

The forest, measuring 57 hectares, was gazetted in 1932, and in 1998, it was categorized as a local forest reserve owned and managed by the Wakiso district council.
