Talented defender Jacob Okao has bid farewell to the Startimes Uganda Premier League reigning champions, Vipers SC after his contract ran out.
The 21-year-old made his debut on January 10, 2020, in the game against Kyetume FC but his time at St Mary’s Stadium is done after a marriage of three years.
“It’s sad to leave a place you’ve been in for a long time but I must say I go with beautiful memories from Vipers SC,” Okao told Gateway News.
“I want to thank Vipers as a club for all the good things they have done for me. It has been a journey worth the hard work, joy and fellowship,” he added.
The young centre-back started his journey of playing the beautiful game with Kataka FC in 2017 while he was still a student in Blessed Sacrament, Kimanya.
Where he was lured by Mbarara City, but because of the bursary to join St. Mary’s Kitende for A’level, he was forced to become a Venom.
Okao was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2018 Copa Coca-Cola Post-primaries after guiding Blessed Sacrament Kimanya who were famously known as ‘The Eleven Commandos’ to the finals.
While at Kitende he had a great partnership with Ahmed Amayo and they managed to clinch the 2019 Copa Coca-Cola Schools championship after seeing off Jinja SS in a 3-1 victory.
“I thank Dr Lawrence Mulindwa for sponsoring my A’level studies in the best school and later giving me a chance to play for Vipers SC.”
“For the players and fans, I will miss you but be sure that you will forever remain in my heart because you are family.”
According to the youngster, he came in as a young boy who had a lot to learn but the coaches welcomed him and polished him to become a better player.
He received his release form on Friday, July 1 and it only remains a point of time to tell where the gem will play from come next month.
