DEO urges school heads to register learners with NIIRA

The Kabale District Education Officer (DEO) has asked heads of schools in the district to register their learners with National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) to ensure they have National Identification Numbers (NIN) as per the new policy of the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Bwengye said Tuesday during a meeting with government primary schools headteachers held at Kabale district headquarters in Rukiko hall.

He explained that the learners who have NIN should provide passport size photos and their parents shall fill the forms provided by the ministry of education at the schools while those lacking NIN must register with NIRA first.

He further highlighted the purpose for registration that it is to enable government and the ministry know the entrusted enrolment of the learners countrywide thus easy planning.

Bwengye also showed need for all headteachers to be equipped with computer knowledge that will enable them to conveniently keep up with the new undertaking.

Wilber Turyamuboona, the district inspector of schools also said that headteachers should have smartphones and computers to capture the information faster.

Turyamubona added that the ministry is set to train head teachers to use teller for new registration of teachers under Teachers management and information system to ease monitoring of teachers countrywide.

It is at the same occasion that Turyamubona asked teachers who wish to supervise and mark mock exams to submit their applications before July 20th, 2022.
